Hello everyone!
Welcome to the third month of the photography competition, where we launch a word or a theme around Portugality and you let your imagination flow around it.
For the month of April our word is:
LIBERDADE ~ LIBERTÀ ~ FREEDOM (li.ber.da.de - libərˈdad(ə) )
April is the month of freedom for Portugal (but also for Italy). It was on the dawn of the 25th of April of 1974 that a group of free men from the army initiated the revolution that would free the country after decades of dictatorship. In this day, the people came to the streets and made sure that the militarily-initiated revolution would have the support of the people in the streets and that it would not be reversed.
In what would be known as the "Revolução dos Cravos" or "Carnation Revolution", this was a peaceful and bloodless revolution that would make way for Portugal to finally free itself from the chains of fascism.
The streets were the place where the revolution was made and through graffiti the people would often, after that day, use the walls of our cities to express their views. After more than forty years of repression a cultural and artistic movement was suddenly born and the country was flooded by literature, paintings and music everywhere.
This revolution would even turn April as a synonym of ideals to be achieved, as in "Let's make April happen"
So. This month, the subject for your Photography is "Liberdade/Libertà/Freedom".
We are eager to receiving your pictures.
Send your pictures to JRC-SEMESTRE-PT@ec.europa.eu with [Photos] in the subject of the email.

For a little inspiration we leave you with the song that in a clandestine way was played in the radio as a signal for the military to know that the revolution was taking place and it was time to take our life into our own hands
